46-Year Old Man Convicted of Sexual Battery of Minor and Child Pornography

This week, a 46-year old man was convicted of several sex crimes in Ada County. 46-year old Darin Ogden was arrested in September of 2018 on a slew of charges. This included sexual battery of a minor and possession of child pornography. When he was first arrested, the prosecutor reported that he would be facing up to life in prison. However, his sentence was a bit shy of that.

On Wednesday, August 5, Darin Ogden was finally convicted and sentenced. He had been charged and found guilty of the following:

  • Sexual battery of a minor child
  • Exploitation of a child
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Lewd contact with a minor

Each of these charges could carry several years in prison. He was sentenced this past week and received a sentence of thirty (30) years in prison. He will be eligible in 15 years for parole. That won’t be until the year 2035. The judge who oversaw his case also ordered him to have no contact with any minors for at least thirty (30) years. That seems a given since he will be in prison for at least 15 of these years.

The charges stemmed from allegations of Ogden abusing a 15-year-old girl back in 2017. Ogden had been friends with the victim’s mom since he was a teenager. He reconnected with her as an adult. He would spend the night there and developed an inappropriate relationship with the child.

The girl’s mother said she suspected something was wrong, but she did nothing. It wasn’t until the police started investigating Ogden in 2018. The girl, who is 17 now, has not been identified for obvious reasons.
