A Pocatello DUI charge came after a woman caused a crash because of her intoxication.
The incident took place on the night of Thursday, May 27. It was reported to the authorities at around 9:30 p.m.
According to the details shared by the Pocatello police, the DUI crash occurred on the 1200 block of the East Clark Street. The sole vehicle involved in the incident was identified as a GMC SUV. Ishnala Bates, 25, of Pocatello was driving the vehicle when it suffered the crash.
Bates apparently lost control of her vehicle and the SUV collided with a tree at a high rate of speed. It then crashed into the porch of a home where it barely missed two parked vehicles. The vehicle caused extensive damage to the porch before finally overturning and coming to rest upside down.
Bates suffered no notable injuries in the crash and remained largely safe. She was the only occupant traveling in the SUV at the time of the incident. No other persons were present in the porch at the time of the collision, so there were no major injuries to report. However, the GMC was totaled and there was significant property damage to the porch.
Following the crash, law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the accident. Preliminary investigations by the police showed that Bates was driving under the influence at the time the crash occurred. The Pocatello DUI charge was laid and the woman was subsequently released.
Police shut down a stretch of the East Clark Road after the accident as on-site investigations and cleanup was conducted. The road was reopened to traffic nearly 90 minutes later.
Pocatello police continues to investigate the incident. For Boise crashes like these, victims can seek full compensation for property damage with the help of a Boise felony DUI attorney.
